Introduction

As cities expand and densify, urban development has increasingly displaced non-human species, fragmenting ecosystems and reducing biodiversity. The Urban Wildlife Habitat competition invites architects, designers, planners, and thinkers to reimagine urban spaces as shared environments—where human and non-human life coexist, adapt, and thrive together.

This competition challenges participants to design an architectural or spatial intervention within an urban context that prioritizes the needs of wildlife—birds, insects, small mammals, amphibians, or plant species—while thoughtfully integrating into the city fabric. The project should question human-centric design norms and explore architecture as a mediator between ecological systems and urban life.

Objective

· To promote biodiversity-driven urban design

· To explore architecture as habitat, corridor, or refuge for non-human species

· To reclaim underutilized or neglected urban spaces for ecological purposes

· To encourage climate-responsive, regenerative, and nature-positive design

· To raise awareness of urban ecology and multispecies coexistence
