Introduction

Artist residencies have long served as spaces where creative minds can withdraw, experiment, and engage deeply with their practice and surroundings. This competition invites architects, designers, and students to envision an Artist’s Residency that goes beyond accommodation—one that actively shapes creative living. The proposal should explore how architecture can inspire artistic production, foster reflection, and encourage interaction between artists, nature, and the local context.

Objective

To design an Artist’s Residency that acts as a catalyst for creativity by integrating living, working, and communal spaces. The design should nurture solitude and collaboration, support multiple art forms, and demonstrate a sensitive relationship with landscape, climate, and culture.

The Building Program

Participants may interpret the program creatively, but it should include:

• Private artist living units / studios

• Shared workspaces (studios, workshops, maker spaces)

• Exhibition / display space (gallery, open courtyard, or performance area)

• Communal facilities (kitchen, dining, lounge, discussion spaces)

• Outdoor creative and contemplative spaces

• Support spaces (storage, administration, services)

Site

The site is open to interpretation. Participants may choose any real or hypothetical location that enhances the concept of creative living—rural, urban, coastal, forested, desert, or adaptive reuse of an existing structure. Site selection should be clearly justified through climate, cultural context, and artistic relevance.
