Introduction
Cities are dynamic environments where ideas must be tested, adapted, and experienced in real time. Temporary urban pavilions offer a powerful platform to explore experimental architecture—structures that are light, adaptable, and responsive to public life. This competition invites architects, designers, and thinkers to propose a temporary pavilion that engages the urban context while testing spatial, material, and social ideas at an urban scale.
Objective
The objective of this competition is to encourage innovative thinking through temporary architecture that can activate public space, foster interaction, and provoke dialogue. Participants are challenged to design a pavilion that is experimental yet feasible, temporary yet impactful—demonstrating how small-scale interventions can influence urban experience and future city-making.
The Building Program
The pavilion may serve one or multiple of the following purposes:
Public gathering and interaction space
Exhibition or display pavilion
Cultural, educational, or performance space
Rest, pause, or observation structure
Urban laboratory for testing materials, forms, or construction techniques
The program is intentionally flexible, allowing participants to define the pavilion’s function based on their concept and site response.
Site
Participants may select any urban site of their choice, such as a public plaza, park, waterfront, street intersection, vacant lot, or transit-adjacent space. The chosen site should be clearly justified and play an integral role in shaping the pavilion’s design, interaction, and relevance.
