Introduction
I am Dingxuan Chen from China, and I am a architecture student of RMIT in Australia. In my opinion, the purpose of architecture is to solve current problems with the architectural design. With the high growth of population of the world. People need minimal buildings with well rounded functions, thus I participate the competition.
Design Concept
My winnings minimal dwelling design focuses on the transformation of space and satisfying the word MINIMAL. I design the house as small as possible but have enough space for the 3 people family to live. In many huge cities like Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai, people live in small area, what we can do is to design appropriate housing for them to live comfortably. I believe my proposal will give inspiration to people who are trying to solve living conditions in the cities.
Minimal Dwelling Relevance
Like I said before, the proposal I designed is take into account the potential housing programs for people who live
in the massive and crowded cities. To make it suited for minimal dwelling environments, the house is small and the form is clean. These are the basic but necessary.
Sustainable Integration
Sustainability is crucial in every architecture project, and I disposed all the useless elements in my design. And the project can be replicated in all over the world. The sustainability presents in this way.
Design Development
First, I would like to make the building as small as possible, but I ignore the comfortable space in the house. Then, I came up with the idea to transform the space by moving the cabinets and furnitures. Finally, I got the small space with high quality living conditions.
Community Impact
All I wanna do is to play a central role in addressing housing crises and improving living conditions. And my design shows that this house is small in area but big in space.
Advice for Aspiring Designers
No pain no gain. Do more research about living conditions of people. Never mind about imagining yourself in the space you design. More attempts more success.
Reflections on Winning
I am so honored of recognition by Archiol and win the second prize. Finally,I want to advocates all architects and who loves architecture to participate the research of Minimal Dwelling.
