From Fragility to Resilience: An Integrated Approach to Coastal Settlement on Kutubdia Island

Mst. Khairun Nahar Jeba is a Bangladesh-based architect and a graduate of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), where she completed her Bachelor of Architecture in 2025, graduating first in her class with a CGPA of 3.91/4.00.
Her architectural interests focus on climate-responsive design, resilient communities, and context-driven approaches that strengthen the relationship between people, place, and the environment. She is particularly interested in exploring how architecture can respond to social and environmental challenges while remaining rooted in local culture, materials, and ways of living.
Her undergraduate thesis, From Fragility to Resilience: An Integrated Approach to Coastal Settlement on Kutubdia Island, explored a community-based model for developing safer, more resilient, and self-sustaining coastal settlements in Bangladesh. Through her work, Jeba views architecture as more than a physical structure, considering it a tool for resilience, social connection, and meaningful transformation of everyday life.

Camila Solange Alvarez Chamorro

Design Title

The Cesar Chiriboga Square as a Catalyst of Urban Life

Camila Alvarez is an architect who graduated from the International University of Ecuador (UIDE) in 2025. She currently works at the Metropolitan Public Company for Mobility and Public Works (EPMMOP), an entity of the Municipality of Quito. Through this experience, she has gained a deeper understanding of the management and transformation of the spaces that shape the city.
Her architectural approach is guided by a fundamental question: How do we inhabit spaces, and what stories do we want to preserve within them? She is particularly interested in heritage, urban planning, and sustainability, believing that architecture extends beyond the act of building to encompass an understanding of place, its memory, and the people who inhabit it.
Her thesis project, presented in this competition, emerged from this perspective, exploring an architecture that engages with its context, values what already exists, and simultaneously imagines new ways of inhabiting space.
For Camila, architecture is the art of inhabiting a space, as well as giving meaning to the way it is experienced.
