A GLOBAL SANCTUARY
Editorial reflection
In a world shaped by movement and global exchange, architecture can act as a bridge between cultures. A Global Sanctuary – Designing Hotel for Cultural Exchange reimagined hospitality as an experience rooted in dialogue, understanding, and shared human narratives. The competition invited participants to envision hotels as platforms that celebrate diversity while fostering meaningful connections between people and place.
The submissions revealed a strong sensitivity to cultural interpretation and spatial storytelling. Designers explored ways to weave together traditions, materials, and philosophies, creating environments that are immersive, inclusive, and respectful of local identity. Many proposals extended beyond conventional hospitality models, introducing spaces that encourage interaction, learning, and cultural engagement.
Equally notable was the emphasis on sustainability and contextual responsiveness. Participants integrated ecological responsibility with cultural expression, proposing designs that balance environmental stewardship with experiential richness. Together, these works demonstrate how architecture can cultivate belonging, strengthen communities, and inspire a more connected world.
