The focus on communal spaces, large round tables, and themed apartments contributes positively to the user experience and comfort. The inclusion of facilities for socializing, shared meals, and artistic expression adds a layer of uniqueness to the hostel, enhancing the overall comfort for guests.
The description effectively communicates the inspiration behind the design, the location, and the purpose of different spaces within the hostel. It provides a clear picture of the hostel's features and amenities, contributing to a better understanding of the project.
The integration of Silesian culture into the design, with a focus on dances, songs, and folk costumes, adds a cultural touch to the bohemian atmosphere. Winner’s Spotlight: An Exclusive Interview
Discover the story behind the victory — from concept to creation.
Introduction
We are fourth-year architecture students at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. We met during our studies, and our shared passion and enthusiasm for architectural design immediately brought us together.
Design Concept
The creation of the project was inspired by the local culture, which is based on openness and a sense of social community. We wanted the building to be ecological and blend into the surroundings by using rounded shapes and natural materials.
Bohemian Lifestyle Integration
Our design reflects the Bohemian lifestyle through eclectic elements, and unconventional materials, empty walls to promoting artistic expression and individuality. Multifunctional communal spaces encourage community, while dedicated areas for artistic activities foster a sense of creativity and freedom.
Cultural Harmony
The facility is located in Niewiesze next to an artificial lake named Pławniowice. With purpose of creating a family-oriented and homely atmosphere, which forms the basis of Polish culture, we designed common spaces for integration and spending time together. Drawing inspiration from characteristic elements of our culture such as dances, songs, and folk costumes, we created functions related to them, such as a sewing, painting, and theatrical room, allowing you to get closer and explore this culture more deeply.
Innovation and Creativity
Our design innovates with for low and organic shapes, workshop's walls are prepared for painting by guests, so that everyone can leave behind an artistic expression, and cottages, in which thematic apartments are scattered throughout the plot. Additionally, on plot is an orchard that everyone could use it and feel at home for unique guest experience.
Community Reflections
We want to Bohemian hostel design as a catalyst for positive community impact. We designed communal areas, such as a restaurant with large round tables for 8 or 6 people, a stage for dance and music performances, a painting studio and a tailoring workshop, area for practicing yoga, big grills and an orchard. Everything to give integration's opportunity for people and help understand that everybody need other people.
Advice for Fellow Designers
For Bohemian-themed designs, it's important to do good research before design. Prioritize personal expression, experiment with unconventional elements, and stay open to continuous exploration. Remember that you design for people and think what to do to encourage people want visit your building.
Reflections on Winning
Winning the Bohemian Hostel Design Challenge is a tremendous honour, and we are thrilled to be recognized for our work. It validates the effort and creativity invested in crafting this space. This achievement inspires us to continue pushing design boundaries and contributing to the community. Overall, it's a source of pride and motivation for future endeavors in the world of design.
