Where Ruins Bloom
The group consists of four second-year architecture students at the University of Nicosia: Meto Hysotoci (Albanian), Maria Veniamin (Cypriot), Despoina Pyrpou (Greek), and Daria Shevchenko (Russian/Ukrainian).
Their collaboration is driven by a shared interest in community-centred spaces and exploring how architecture can encourage connection, participation, and inclusivity. Through their project, they explored how environments affected by destruction can be rebuilt in new and creative ways—not simply restoring what was lost, but reimagining spaces that bring people together and strengthen communities despite their differences.
Building on this exploration, the group is interested in community-based urban farming, particularly in challenging environments such as cold climates and densely populated urban areas. Through this research, they aim to develop innovative solutions for growing vegetation while creating shared spaces that encourage interaction and connect diverse communities.
