EMOTIONS ON DISPLAY 2025
Editorial reflection
The Emotions on Display 2025 competition challenged architects and designers to explore architecture as a catalyst for human emotion. Participants reimagined the museum as an immersive environment where space, light, materiality, and interaction inspire reflection, curiosity, joy, awe, and personal connection. The submissions demonstrated the remarkable potential of design to shape emotional well-being through meaningful spatial experiences.
The winning projects distinguished themselves through innovative concepts, thoughtful execution, and a sensitive balance of sustainability, inclusivity, and experiential design. On behalf of Archiol Competitions, we congratulate all the winners and participants for their creativity and vision, and we hope these projects continue to inspire new perspectives on the emotional power of architecture.

01 First Place
Winner
Within the Seven
Sameh Ibrahim Emam, Ahmed Hamdi El Metwally, & Samar Helmy Alii
An outstanding and deeply immersive proposal that transforms the seven stages of love into a powerful architectural narrative. The choreographed river journey, masterful use of water, light, landscape, and symbolism, together with the dual circulation for couples and observers, creates one of the most emotionally compelling and experientially rich museum concepts in the competition.
Work on:
While the emotional narrative is exceptionally resolved, the museum's highly specific focus on romantic relationships may limit its universality. Expanding opportunities for individual, family, and broader visitor participation would strengthen inclusivity and align more closely with the competition's objective of exploring a wider spectrum of human emotions.
Special Mention
Exceptional
The Capsule
Shane Tregidga
An exceptionally immersive proposal that transforms the museum into a powerful sensory journey, where architecture quietly frames living trees as emotional protagonists. The restrained architectural language, cyclical circulation, and richly atmospheric exhibition spaces create a deeply memorable and emotionally resonant experience.
Work on:
While the individual exhibition environments are beautifully executed, the emotional progression between them could be articulated more explicitly to strengthen the narrative sequence and help visitors understand the intended emotional evolution throughout the journey.
Honourable Mention
A Journey Toward the Moon
Yejin An & Seongryeon Yang
An exceptionally well-resolved proposal that seamlessly integrates site history, emotional psychology, and architectural experience into a powerful ascending journey, where materiality, light, and movement collectively reinforce a compelling narrative of resilience and hope
Work on:
While the emotional sequence is highly sophisticated, the museum program could further expand its interactive and multisensory exhibition components to encourage more direct visitor participation alongside the architectural experience.
Honourable Mention
The Gradual Unfolding
Raj Yogesh Pardeshi, Maitri Nagda & Akanksha Katale
A thoughtful and well-orchestrated proposal that translates the emotional evolution of human life into a coherent architectural sequence, while successfully integrating adaptive reuse, landscape, and multisensory experiences within a sustainable and accessible museum environment.
Work on:
Although the progression through the stages of life is clearly articulated, the individual experiential zones could benefit from stronger spatial contrast and more immersive interactive installations to create a more profound emotional impact at each transition.
Honourable Mention
Circles Of The Soul: An Immersive Museum
Samarat Islam & Faiza Binta Siddique
A highly coherent and intellectually rigorous proposal that translates the geometry of circles into an emotionally immersive architectural language. The progression through the five natural elements is thoughtfully choreographed, while the integration of interactive installations, materiality, and sequential circulation creates a compelling journey from chaos to reflection.
Work on:
The conceptual framework is exceptionally strong, but the emotional experiences within the elemental galleries could be further differentiated through richer spatial diversity and stronger architectural contrast to ensure each stage leaves a uniquely memorable impression.
Honourable Mention
Shifting Perceptions
Nitya Goinka & Madhav Agarwal
A clear and well-structured proposal that successfully guides visitors through a carefully choreographed sequence of perception, uncertainty, reflection, and acceptance, while integrating accessibility and sustainability into the architectural experience.
Work on:
The experiential narrative is coherent, but the architectural language remains relatively restrained. Stronger spatial drama, richer sensory interventions, and more unexpected immersive moments would elevate the emotional intensity and make the journey more memorable.
Honourable Mention
Into The Depth
Franco Salvador Jimenez, Jomar Alvior, Angelica Callao & Ed Gabriel Romero
A compelling and highly atmospheric proposal that transforms architecture into an emotional sequence, using light, scale, materiality, and spatial compression to create a memorable journey from curiosity to clarity.
Work on:
While the emotional narrative is exceptionally strong, the proposal could better demonstrate inclusivity, accessibility, and sustainable design strategies to ensure the experience is equally engaging, practical, and environmentally responsive for all visitors.
