Design Title
Terra Vita
Dr. Sevgin Aysu Balkan, a Assistant Professor at Eskişehir Technical University Türkiye, specializes in architectural design and theory. Her PhD (2024) focuses on the effects of artificial intelligence on visual thinking in early design stages and its integration with creative cognitive processes. Her academic journey includes a master's degree (2019) in Architectural Design, with research on future-oriented design methodologies and architectural programming. She has also published works on topics such as multisensory design, living spaces in the post-pandemic era, and the application of digital design tools.
Sudem Öztorun is a third year architecture student at Eskişehir Technical University Türkiye. She is interested in the structural and thermal behavior of materials, particularly in how physical properties such as load bearing capacity and thermal mass can shape architectural space. In Terra Vita, which received an Honorable Mention in the Home2125 competition, she explored rammed earth simultaneously as a structural material, thermal mass, and spatial design element. Through the project, she questioned what a house built with a rammed earth structural system could mean in the context of the year 2125.

Alexandros Vervainiotis (b. 2004, Athens) is an Architecture student at the University of Nicosia, recently completing the fourth year of the Master’s program. His journey began with graffiti and sketching, which developed into a passion for observing and understanding the world through design. Alongside his architectural studies, he has explored graphic design, fashion, film, music videos, and architectural practice through internships at ISV and Christos Tsigaras Design Offices in Athens. He approaches architecture as a multidisciplinary and deeply human practice, driven by curiosity, passion, and the belief that meaningful spaces can shape experiences, memories, and lives.

Maria Loizou is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Architecture at the University of Nicosia, Cyprus. Throughout her studies, she has been inspired by the distinctive and functional work of past and contemporary architects, whose ideas continue to influence her approach to design. She believes that combining fundamental architectural principles with innovative thinking can address present and future challenges while creating meaningful spaces that respect the existing built and natural environment. Her work explores the relationship between structure, public life, and habitation, seeking adaptable and socially conscious architectural solutions that support both individual wellbeing and collective living.

She focuses on creating functional, meaningful spaces through contextual sensitivity, experimentation, and thoughtful design.

Leisure Machine
Elizaveta Porunova is a fifth-year architecture student at the University of Nicosia in Cyprus. By combining digital tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Rhino with hand-drawing techniques, she explores through her university projects how architecture can influence and shape human behaviour. She approached this competition as an opportunity to develop not only an architectural proposal but also a broader exploration of surveillance in society and how the built living environment can respond to it.
