Editorial reflection
In a time of growing environmental urgency, the “Self-Sufficient Sanctuary: Designing Off-the-Grid Residences” competition reimagined housing as a self-reliant and sustainable system. It challenged participants to design homes that operate independently while fostering a strong connection with nature.
The submissions reflected remarkable creativity and innovation, presenting holistic solutions that seamlessly integrate energy, water, and waste systems. Beyond functionality, these designs emphasized well-being, resilience, and a deeper relationship between the built environment and its natural context.
As we announce the results, we celebrate not only the winning entries but also a shared vision for the future—one where residential design embraces sustainability, self-sufficiency, and harmony with the environment as essential principles.
