HERITAGE MEETS HOSPITALITY
Editorial reflection
In an era that calls for both sustainability and cultural sensitivity, the “Heritage Meets Hospitality – The Adaptive Reuse Hotel Challenge” highlights the power of reimagining existing structures. This competition invited participants to transform historic buildings into contemporary hotel spaces, balancing preservation with innovation.
The entries reflect a deep respect for heritage while introducing modern experiences that enrich both guests and communities. Together, they demonstrate that meaningful design lies not only in creating new, but in thoughtfully reinterpreting the old.
We commend all participants for their creative vision in shaping a more sustainable and culturally connected future.

Juror’s Comment:
A deeply rooted and poetic adaptive reuse proposal that beautifully translates the cultural legacy of a Korean brewery into a contemporary hospitality experience, especially through the reinterpretation of Jumak culture and Hanok spatial principles. The integration of communal spaces like the Pyeongsang and Toetmaru creates a strong social narrative.
Work on:
Architectural intervention feels safe; could explore bolder contrasts.
